Beverley Pinder

Author of Pride without Prejudice

A unique story of resilience, success, love and the importance of always giving back, Beverley Pinder OAM has traversed a heady path of success spliced with several lows.

Her recently released book: Pride without Prejudice is the inspirational autobiography of Sri Lankan-born Beverley, Miss Universe Australia, glass ceiling-breaking PR businesswoman and former long-serving City of Melbourne councilor.

Beverley’s professional, civic and personal journeys have been anything but smooth. Yet conquering the odds is part of her DNA. In Pride without Prejudice, Beverley invites the reader into her confidence, sharing not only her personal story but the lessons life has taught her. As our speaker at the ‘Women in the Industry Breakfast’ at AusJet 2024 – we will blast into the future with Beverley giving us a glimpse into her life starting off as a teenager in Melbourne growing up in St Kilda; the racism she faced; her failure to attain her year 12 Certificate; catapulting to the dizzy heights as Miss Universe Australia 1978; her spiritual relationship with the late Father Bob Maguire; her Order of Australia honour; and much more.

Domestic turmoil, the highs and lows of three marriages, encounters with celebrities like Sir Richard Branson, Ita Buttrose, Solomon Lew, David Bardas, and Derryn Hinch and these days – a candidate for local elections in the Albert Park ward where she lives in Melbourne.

Beverley’s life’s work has been underpinned by her strong concern for the less-fortunate among us, and her belief in Father Bob’s philosophy of ‘communitarianism’, where we all benefit from the help offered to those who most need it within each community.

Join us as we hear Beverley speak at our special Breakfast event.
